I’ve been involved in cross cultural outreach, ministry, missions, etc., for several years. First as a lay person just beginning to understand that we here in America are a real minority compared to the rest of the world. I mean we consume like 90+ percent of the world’s goods and I just read a statistic that anyone that makes a salary of $10,000 per year is wealthier than some 80+ percent of the world’s population.
My real point is that as I’ve learned about other parts of the world I have come to a greater understanding of cause and effect and how something done in one place can impact another. Also, you can’t go anywhere, almost, in the world without running into a bottle or can of Coca-Cola.
All this to say that because of the ease of transportation, the electronic world of Internet and satellite TV, cell/smart phones, etc., we do live in a global village.
This brings me to the reason why I’m doing a blog for the first time in forever. I just received an email that a blog in Great Britain has just subscribed to my blog. The name of the blog is “Porn Recovery UK”. They probably found my blog by doing a search on porn recovery or one of the many categories or tags I’ve attached to my blog site.
Their blog has many interesting first person stories about men and women who have become addicted to porn and sexting and chat rooms etc. Their goal is to help folks get well.
Here is what they say their purpose/mission/…sort of a “case statement” of who they are:
1 Porn Recovery UK does not take a political stance, and is not faith based, since it is hoped that it will then help and appeal to the widest audience possible for a site of this nature.
2 Porn Recovery UK believes that there are gradations of pornography. Some people see pornography where others see erotica in the same image.
3 Porn Recovery UK believes that there are trends in pornography leading to ever-more extreme material being openly available via the Internet.
4 Porn Recovery UK believes that the effect porn has on individuals varies greatly and that some people are much more vulnerable to deleterious effects from it.
5 Porn Recovery UK responds to the distress pornography causes people in their life.
I appreciate the fact that they wish to be available to a broad spectrum of people that may be turned off by a faith based blog or other descriptors that might turn people away. Their goal is to provide help and healing no matter what one’s personal beliefs are.
Now me, because I just don’t know how I would have become a “Wounded Healer” with long term recovery without faith in my Creator and a personal relationship with my Savior, Jesus.
Perhaps I will no be spurred on to create a few blog entries that I feel will help others in their battle with their addiction because of this group in the UK has chosen to follow my blog. I know one thing, it has certainly reminded me of the global village concept and how anything anyone posts on line can be read by anyone anywhere.
That places a bit of responsiblity on me, now doesn’t it?
Stay tuned.
