We have developed a nine week course for couples in recovery we call “Under Construction”. We limit the participation to 4 couples only because that seems to be the right size to enable participation by all. We recommend that each couple has had some individual group experience in recovery such as “For Men Only”, “Hidden Hurts” or similar gender specific recovery groups.
The benefit of this couples recovery group is that it gives the men an opportunity to hear other wives share their pain and trauma from betrayal that helps them understand how much pain they caused their spouses by their acting out in their sexual addiction. It also gives them the opportunity to hear from each other, perhaps for the first time, their own thoughts and feelings they have or are discovering in their recovery.
Many couples state that the group has helped them from continuing to be “stuck” where they are at in recovery. We cover topics such as: Feelings, Trust, Taking Responsibility, Forgiveness, Boundaries, Physical Intimacy, Spiritual Intimacy, and so on. There are not very many resources for couples to work on their recovery together and hardly any couples’ groups that we know of. We are so honored that God has given this ministry to us and it is a great blessing to hear how this has helped the couples involved. We have only done two groups so far but are going to continue to offer the opportunity as time and circumstances allow.
